Pediatric Pain Psychologist

The Division of Developmental and Behavioral Health at Children's Mercy Kansas City, in collaboration with the Comprehensive Pain Management Program, is recruiting a pediatric pain psychologist. The psychologist's role will primarily include 1) providing consultation and follow-up care in an outpatient interdisciplinary pain clinic, and 2) providing individual and group therapy for adolescents during participation in our pediatric intensive interdisciplinary pain treatment program (the RAPS program). The psychologist will be part of a close-knit interdisciplinary team, with frequent communication and opportunities to provide team support.

This position will primarily support the clinical activities of Children Mercy's expanding pain management service. This includes teaching and supervising in the hospital's pediatric medical residency, psychology fellowship, APA-accredited psychology internship, and/or psychology practicum programs. There are additional opportunities to participate in ongoing research and to pursue new research endeavors in the pain program and Comprehensive Pain Management more broadly. The position carries an academic appointment at the University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Medicine, with rank commensurate to qualifications and experience.

Applicants must have:

1) A PhD (or equivalent) in clinical psychology, pediatric psychology, or child clinical psychology

2) Completed an APA-approved internship

3) Experience working on multidisciplinary or interdisciplinary teams

4) Experience working with adolescents and families facing complex biopsychosocial conditions such as chronic pain

5) Eligibility for licensure in Missouri and Kansas

Preferred qualities:

1) Fellowship level training in pediatric psychology including evaluation and treatment of chronic pain

2) Experience with intensive interdisciplinary pain treatment

3) Interest in, or experience with, acceptance-based treatment approaches, mindfulness, and self-compassion ( as these are foundational to our intensive treatment approach )
